Landlords with property in Hackney should now be aware that following a consultation earlier this year, Hackney Council have now approved a five year selective licensing pilot scheme of all non-HMOs as well as borough-wide additional licensing for all HMOs.
Concluding a six month consultation that began in late September, the council has now released its full report, (which can be read above) citing the poor conditions of HMOs in the relevant boroughs.
Alongside the licensing schemes, the council will also be launching a “programme of intelligence-based, targeted enforcement for homes not covered by the licensing schemes”.
The three wards approved for selective licensing are:
Brownswood, Cazenove; and Stoke Newington
As illustrated in the map below:
A discount of £50 will apply to landlords who are a member of a recognised landlord body or approved accreditation scheme. Alongside this, the council have also released a page detailing updated standards for all HMOs.
