London tenants have taken to Twitter in a social media campaign to protest against ‘rip off rent prices’ and poor conditions in the capital.
The hashtag #ventyourrent was launched by campaigners Generation Rent, and is being used as a platform to encourage tenants across the country to publically shame landlords who they believe are unreasonably hiking rental rates, whilst failing to maintain decent standards of maintenance.
Social media has been ablaze with tenants uploading images of themselves holding pictures of paper displaying how much they have paid to live in the capital, and the problems they have experiences at the hands of their London landlords.
One Tweeted: “£750 Bethnal Green. V Small Room. Rent up 25% in a Year” the image also suggested that the property had leaks and ‘rats as pets’.
Another read: “Shared house, 10 people, £820 per room, Clapham. Boyfriend and I had no fridge for 2 months.”
