Families have become the most common type of renter, according to research from the National Landlords Association
More landlords now let their properties to families with children that any other type of tenant, with this group making up 48% if the sector. This is closely followed by young couples, who make up 47%.
There has been a significant shift in comparison to the same research four years ago, which showed that the largest demographics was young singles, who made up from 53% of the market.
Today, young families believe that renting a property allows a steady option as a family home. 76% reported that they are happy with the length of heir tenancy, and 79% revealed that their tenancy was either renewed or stayed constant at the end of their initial fixed term.
There has been a shift in perception about renting a property, which may have a positive impact on how it appears to young families. A significant 65% of respondents said that their landlord had given them permission to personalize their property however they wanted to, which possibly contributed to the 77% who said that their property felt like home.
