Alok Sharma announced as new housing minister

Finally, the piece of the puzzle that we have all been waiting for drops into place – and it’s shaped like Reading West MP Alok Sharma.

The name might not mean much to you just yet, but it will - Sharma has just been announced as the new Housing Minister, the sixth since 2010.

With interests including trade, industry and finance, it might not be immediately clear as to why Mr Sharma, who previously held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - has been handed such a role, however, with an employment history in accountancy and banking, he may at least be able to shed some light on the contentious tax changes currently facing landlords in the UK!

His notable moments in his election in 2010 include fighting against a 750-home scheme in his Reading constituency, opposing Brexit, supporting the expansion of Heathrow Airport

He is keen to get cracking in his new role, taking to Twitter to express his excitement, and pledging to ‘work on building the homes that Britain needs.’
