There’s plenty in the news about how Millenials are forced to rent rather than buy because of their fondness for avocado-on-toast-heavy brunches, or their preference for pricey, pre-packaged lunchtime sandwiches.
However, it’s rare to see research talking about Baby Boomers – people born between 1940 and 1970 – actively choosing the private rented sector.
A recent study by the Centre for Aging Better has revealed that there has been a sharp rise in the number of over 60's renting privately, from 254,000 in 2007 to 414,000 in 2018.
The research suggests that this trend is set to continue, with a third of people over 60 expected to be living in private rented accommodation by 2040.
